Pyrography plaque Goddess Konohana Sakuya-hime

Description

Charming wood burned plaque featuring Japanese Shinto goddess Konohana Sakuya-hime as beautiful oriental woman in rich kimono decorated with dragons and clouds, standing in front of Mount Fuji under sakura tree. Sakuya-hime, whose name means “cherry tree blossom blooming princess” is a goddess of tree blossoms and, like sakura flowers that are extremely beautiful but short-lived, she is a symbol of fleeting beauty, fleeting life, ukiyo-e.
She is married to Ninigi no Mikoto, a grandson of sun goddess Amaterasu, and she has shrines built for her on Mount Fuji since it’s believed that she can keep Fuji from erupting.

The design for this plaque was taken from Dover coloring book (created by Marty Noble) and transferred to thick plywood plaque by means of pyrography (woodburning).
